Ian VanDerLinden
Ian is a hunter, a fisherman, and hiker from Spencerport New York. He grew up fishing on Keuka Lake for various panfish and trout. He attended Nazareth College and graduated with a B.A. in History from there in 2013. He currently works within the Pittsford Central School district.
His love and passion for the outdoors began at an early age. He grew up exploring the woods behind his house, going on hunts with his father, or just wandering around learning about the plants and animals that resided there. His first love was fishing, you could often catch him fishing first thing in the morning at the end of the dock, or at any time of the day really. He always had a rod in his hand and often a fish on the line. Hunting became more of a passion recently in his life. He hunts for the adventure and wild game meat. He started 585 Outdoors to help share his journey, view points about hunting and fishing, and why he does it.
Cory Zuhlsdorf
Cory has been hunting and fishing for nearly 10 years now. He is currently studying Natural Resources Conservation at Finger Lakes Community College and is expected to graduate in 2019. Out of high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as an Armored Cavalry Scout for 2 years. He was medically retired due to injuries sustained during training.
He considers himself to be a more avid hunter than angler. Often attends live metal and rock concerts, a regular on the Gun Gamers Youtube channel which focuses on tactical gear, airsoft, and the airsoft industry and culture. He is a terrific story teller and is always ready and willing to teach others his passions.
Sean Combes
Sean is a hunter, angler, and public lands advocate from Baldwinsville, New York, and is an active member of Trout Unlimited and Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. Originally from central Virginia, he grew up exploring the rivers and woods with his Dad. As his travels took him around the country he rediscovered fly fishing and is currently on a competitive fly fishing team, Team Cutthroat, working towards the goal of representing the US in international competition. In addition to hunting and fly fishing, Sean is an active outdoorsman who enjoys hiking and camping, and is actively working on becoming a member of the ADK 46ers – a group of hikers who have summited all 46 of the High Peaks in the Adirondacks.
Cash Bleier
Cash is from the Rochester, New York area but moved to Central New Jersey for his college education. He majored in Marine and Environmental Biology and minored in Global Sustainability at Monmouth University. Much of the work and research he did at school focused on fisheries of the Atlantic coast. Cash comes from an extensive history of outdoorsmen on both sides of his family. He recalls his earliest hunting memory was when he was five and his grandpa, dad, and uncles returned from a hunt and hung a whitetail doe in his grandparents garage. This was his first exposure to the world of hunting. In the years following he began to take more interest, sit in tree stands with relatives, and eventually took my hunter safety course. You can say he was destined to be an outdoorsmen.
Today he is an avid hunter and fisherman. He pursuits whitetail deer, turkey, ducks, geese, pheasant, grouse, and dozens of species of freshwater fish throughout Upstate New York.In addition to the outdoors, he loves to play basketball, watch sports, golf, and drink good bourbon. He hopes to bring a unique perspective to the 585 Outdoors team through his hunting adventures, college experiences, and individual opinions.
Eric Houseknecht
Eric is an outdoors enthusiast from Rochester. Eric grew up boating and hiking in the western New York area with his family, and his love of the outdoors grew as he got older. Eric graduated from Nazareth College in 2013 with a B.A. in English Literature, and went on to work for a commercial turf equipment dealership in Rochester, NY.
His hobbies include hiking, camping, shooting, knife collecting, scuba diving, weightlifting, gaming, airsoft, writing, and videography. Eric also runs a YouTube channel called Gun Gamers devoted to airsoft, tactical gear, and all manner of nerd stuff. Whenever he has some downtime, he prefers to kick back outside with a glass of whiskey and a good cigar. Eric loves to discuss all manner of topics with anyone willing to listen, hence his humble contributions here.
